At long last the campaign to get the county council to improve the barriers at the Ashfields junction in North Watford has been successful. Lib Dem councillors had long argued the barriers were inadequate and unsafe for both pedestrians and motorists.
The new barrier is reinforced steel, and represents an enormous improvement on the previous flimsy construction.
Cllr Karen Collett (Woodside ward) said 'Motorists drive round this corner at high speeds and we have seen numerous collisions. The barriers were proven to be flimsy and would not have given any protection should a pedestrian have been unfortunate enough to be passing at the time of an accident, or indeed to the motorist who could continue on into the wall. The new barrier is far superior, and will make the junction a great deal safer for all concerned'
