Watford Liberal Democrats are demanding the Government sets out a plan to fund the rebuild of Watford Hospital immediately.
After years of uncertainty, West Herts Hospitals Trust have now set out their intention to redevelop the Watford General Hospital site. Land on the Health Campus site has also been set aside for the expansion of the hospital - to be used however the Trust would like.
With Watford’s future as our area’s main acute hospital safe, Mayor Dorothy Thornhill and the Liberal Democrats are calling for plans to be drawn up for the new buildings as soon as possible.
"We’ve been waiting for ten years for the Trust to decide on their plans for Watford Hospital. We just cannot afford to wait another decade. South West Herts deserves a first class hospital now - not in the distant future" said Dorothy. "We’ve done our bit as a council with the new road and providing the land. The Trust now needs to get on with publishing its plans and starting building work. ‘The Government must commit to fully funding the Trust to ensure our hospital and our NHS across the county can cope not only with the pressures of today, but with the demands of the future too."
The Watford Liberal Democrats are also running an important campaign to see a new, fit for purpose, car park built for Watford General. To read about the campaign and support the petition click here.
