Stop the Herts Bus Cuts

Join Dorothy Thornhill's campaign to Stop the Herts Bus Cuts!

The Liberal Democrats have been leading the campaign against the Conservative County Council’s plans to cut bus services. In the summer the Conservatives proposed cutting supported bus services after 6.30pm Monday to Saturday and all day Sunday.

We told them that we wouldn’t accept that. Over the summer and autumn Lib Dems across Herts collected over 12,000 petition signatures against these plans. If you signed our petition, thank you.

But we need your help again. The Tories, including our MP in Watford, have backed plans for even greater cuts, £1.5 million in total. This is despite having already made the savings they originally said they wanted to.

Their new plans are to cut services after 7:30pm Monday-Saturday, all bus services on a Sunday and 39 routes completely.  This is effectively a curfew on those who can’t or don’t drive

We will be fighting these plans tooth and nail. Once the consultation comes out in January we will be asking people to respond firmly against these cuts. We are now collecting a new petition against these new cuts- signatures on the last petition do not count as its already been presented, please sign again

The councillors who voted for the cuts should have experience getting home on the none existent bus services. But before that to travel by bus to and from work just for the experience. They might just change their minds???

I work long hours and I cannot afford to catch taxis on a regular basis. I do not have a car, do they expect us to walk everywhere?

I am against the Conservatives for planning to cut bus services in Watford and in the many towns, villages and areas around the Hertfordshire county. I pray that this madness will end because if this plan comes into effect many people, especially the elderly, disabled and working people who use these buses as their only form of transport to go to work, hospitals, town centres, supermarkets, medical centres etc. will all be seriously affected leaving them stranded. I live in Watford and when the sun goes down Watford is one of the busiest towns in Hertfordshire. during the hours of 6-9pm many people get on those buses to get to their homes after they have left work, shopping or evening just going on an outing.

this is my message to the Libdem MPs do everything in power to make sure that this plan by the conservatives be eradicated and appose by those in Authority that has to make the final decision concerning this matter. I ask for many others to sign against those cuts so that we can save our bus services in our towns, villages and communities that has always been loyal in providing us a good transportation service for years.

Why would you cut a bus service that hardly runs on time in the evening and morning anyway it’s hard enough to get from work as it is.

Keeping in mind that during peak times the buses are full and have regular ticket price increases and a mobile app that struggles too work.

More people will risk drinking and driving if evening buses are removed.

Older people like myself won’t go out so much – no exercise – less fit – more strain on the NHS

Others will lose contact with family / friends – isolation – depression – more strain on the NHS

Bus services should be looked at, why as a tax payer do I have to pay for two buses at the same time run by different companies. Maybe if people actually looked at how the services are planned there might be savings, without losing a service.
