Watford Lib Dem councillors work together to boost Covid-19 charity appeal

Watford Liberal Democrat councillors are working together to ensure local charities get the vital financial help they need during the Covid-19 pandemic.  The ‘Watford Helps’ appeal, which has recently topped £100k, is receiving an additional £14,500 boost from the councillors who have committed half of their annual Neighbourhood Locality Funds to the appeal.

All Liberal Democrat majority wards in the town are contributing to the fund.

The appeal, which is being run by Watford and Three Rivers Trust in partnership with Watford Borough Council, is allocating this much-needed funding directly to Watford based charities that are stepping up to meet increased demand during the current emergency.  This will make sure help gets to Watford residents as soon as they need it.  The charities being supported are those who are on the frontline in supporting the town through this crisis and charities facing massive shortfalls in their funding due to the emergency.

Cllr Karen Collett, Leader of the Liberal Democrat group and Deputy Mayor of Watford said:  “Our councillors are doing all they can to get our town, and its communities, through this difficult time.  Focusing half of their locality funds for this year on organisations working on the frontline, and dealing directly with the heavy toll of the virus, is one way they can contribute to the town-wide effort and help our most vulnerable residents.”

“As the pandemic continues, the full extent of its impact on our town is becoming clearer.  We know people are struggling financially and many, who have never needed to ask for help before, are now turning to our fantastic voluntary organisations for support. I'm pleased that Liberal Democrat councillors have been able to step up to the challenge and do their bit to help support our town through this crisis."
