A statement on the death of Her Majesty The Queen

We are all saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

Earlier this evening the elected Mayor of Watford released the following statement.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Queen Elizabeth II who passed away at Balmoral earlier today. Her Majesty the Queen dedicated her life to our country and the Commonwealth, and we unite as a nation to mourn her passing and to show our gratitude for her lifetime of outstanding service.

Queen Elizabeth II guided this country through a period of great change during her 70 year reign, taking the United Kingdom from the post war years of the 1950s to the modern, global and diverse nation it is today. Throughout this change, Her Majesty’s steady and unceasing presence showed unwavering care and leadership for her people across the globe.  Her life was an example and inspiration to us all.

We also remember that the Queen was a proud and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. My thoughts and prayers are with the Royal family at this sad time. On behalf of all the residents of Watford and the councillors and officers of Watford Borough Council, I would like to offer our deepest sympathies to them on her passing.

As a nation, we now unite behind our new King. We trust and pray that, throughout his reign, he will uphold the dedication to duty and service shown so faithfully by Queen Elizabeth II for over seven decades.

God save the King.
