The facts
In 2017-18 Watford's target for building new homes was 313 per year.
In 2018-19 this target was increased to 798 new homes per year by the Conservative government.
Watford is 8 square miles and one of the smallest local authorities geographically.
What this means for Watford
The housing targets set by the government are flawed. By not taking account of limited space actually available in areas such as Watford the government is forcing councils like ours to build upwards.
If we are to meet the targets set by the government of delivering 800 new homes a year then taller buildings are the only answer.
Watford Liberal Democrats are committed to standing up for our residents and demand the government cut our unrealistic housing targets.
