I have been Mayor of Watford since 2018. Before becoming Mayor I was a councillor for Oxhey Ward. I worked closely with Dorothy Thornhill and was her deputy, with responsibility for services such as parks, leisure centres and bin collections. Over the last 4 years we have successfully managed to deliver a number of really important projects for residents, all while responding to a global pandemic. I am so proud that we were able to fulfil key commitments such as introducing the popular Beryl bike-share scheme, opening Oxhey Activity Park, reducing homelessness and rough sleeping, and supporting the redevelopment of Watford General Hospital.
Why are you a Lib Dem?
I believe everyone should be able to fulfil their potential. That means, whatever your background you get to go to an excellent, well-funded school, use good public services and live in a decent home. I also believe that it is important for local people to have the power to make local decisions. For example, we should decide how Watford develops. This is something I have been campaigning on over the last 4 years, especially regarding the high housing targets that have been imposed on Watford by the Conservative government.
Why do you want to continue being Mayor of Watford?
I've loved being Mayor for the last four years. I have had the chance to meet lots of amazing people and played my part in bringing people together to get things done. I'm standing again because I want to make the town an even better place and there are some really important things I want to help achieve such as cutting congestion, delivering new facilities at Watford General and getting our unfair housing target reduced.
What do you enjoy about living in Watford?
I love that Watford is a big hearted town with a great sense of community. We've got lots of brilliant charities and community groups who do so much important work and have been vital to keeping our town going over the last couple of years.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
We are fortunate to have so many great parks in Watford where I enjoy taking my kids for much needed family time. It’s also fantastic that the Chilterns are close by and I enjoy going for a walk or bike ride, preferably with a pub lunch afterwards!
