We have reached the stage in the election timetable where we need to select our candidate for the Watford Borough Mayoral Election that is scheduled to take place in May 2022.
As the elected Mayoral seat is held by a sitting Liberal Democrat Mayor, it has been agreed with the East of England regional party that the first step is for the present Mayor to decide if they wish to stand again. Peter Taylor has indicated that he wishes to stand again and therefore his name will be put forward for re-selection, and that issue will form the main item of business at a special General Meeting of Watford Borough Local Party members. An external Returning Officer, Marisha Ray, has been appointed to oversee the process.
The Mayoral Selection meeting will take place remotely on Zoom on Tuesday 31st August at 7:00pm. Email [email protected] for the Zoom meeting details.
Following the meeting all eligible party members residing in Watford Borough will be sent online voting instructions by email, and a unique link to an electronic ballot administered by Liberal Democrat HQ. The ballot will contain the option to re-select or not re-select Peter Taylor. The ballot will remain active for two weeks from the date on which the link is sent out. Members who are not contactable by email will be sent the instructions through the post.
If the vote is carried, Peter Taylor will become our Mayoral Candidate. If it is not, the selection of our Mayoral candidate will be opened up for any eligible person to apply, and a full selection contest will be held.
