National Testing Scheme must do better for everyone

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, has today written a letter to Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, to express his personal frustration at the current state of the National Test and Trace system.

The inadequate performance of Test and Trace across the country is echoed across Watford, with many struggling to get a local test, despite test centres having been set up around the country, including one at Watford Town Hall.

Mayor Peter Taylor commented, “Watford Council’s environmental health team has launched the county’s first local Track and Trace system, with local expertise being key to successfully contacting people within the community. But the good work that is taking place locally can only be effective alongside a solid testing programme, something which is reliant upon good leadership and direction from the Government.

“It is absolutely vital that we get this right. Everyone knows that having a proper testing system is vital to controlling the spread of this virus. At the moment people are struggling to book tests or being sent hundreds of miles to get one. There isn’t enough testing capacity and this is simply not good enough. The government must sort this out.”
