Relevant experience:

In her professional life, Karen is a solicitor specialising in major energy and infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on advising the government and public sector bodies. This means she has a deep understanding of public sector concerns, including the importance of ensuring value for money for taxpayers, accounting for the spending of public funds and transparency in decision-making processes. She also has extensive experience advising at a pro bono housing advice clinic, which has given her insight into common issues with social housing.

Prior to becoming a lawyer she worked as a carer in a residential home for people with dementia; as such, she fully endorses Mayor Peter Taylor’s key policy to make Watford a dementia-friendly town and would embrace the opportunity to contribute to schemes to help local people with dementia and their families.

She was born and raised in Watford, and over the years has taken part in numerous local volunteering events, including cleaning and maintenance projects at the New Hope day centre and Harwoods Recreation Ground, putting together food hampers for local families at Christmas, and raising funds for New Hope through ‘sleep outs’ and other sponsored activities.

The Lib Dem values that mean the most to Karen are...

Inclusivity and equality because they are fundamental to a free and fair society. She is proud of the Lib Dem commitment to campaigning for LGBT+ rights, women’s rights, racial equality, increased support for people with disabilities and their carers, and the party’s strong opposition to human rights abuses.

Karen enjoys living in Watford because...

She is a lifelong Watford FC fan – during her teenage years, most weekends were spent at Vicarage Road watching Saracens and Watford.

She loves the greenery of Oxhey, and spends a lot of time with her children at Oxhey Park, the playground on Oxhey Green, and visiting the cows in Attenborough Fields and the chickens at the Oxhey allotments. Oxhey is an amazing area with a strong sense of community spirit and fantastic local businesses, including the coffee shop, bakery, greengrocer and pubs, which she loves to support.
