I have been Councillor in Park ward for the last 4 years, working hard for the local community. In my professional life I am a Project Manager and I find this helps me be an effective councillor. Cassiobury Park is an inspiring and popular place for people to visit and enjoy, and a great asset for Watford. Being in my ward it presents a responsibility to ensure the needs and views of local residents and visitors are addressed and balanced. I have worked with council officers on the annual schedule of events, and introduced changes and consultations on parking and traffic management measures to support local residents. I have helped many individual residents with specific issues or questions on planning, highways, parking, vegetation and tree maintenance, anti-social behaviour, streetlights etc.
Why are you a Lib Dem?
Tolerance and inclusivity. As a Project Manager I frequently face situations where I have to facilitate between different people with differing views. Tolerance is always important in this to ensure views are heard and understood, even though it may not always be possible to satisfy everyone. Lib Dem policies naturally encourage inclusivity and it is great to see this coming through in Watford in the type of inclusive events and activities the council delivers, often in Cassiobury Park.
Why do you want to continue being a councillor?
I want to continue to support and help local Park residents with their issues, questions and concerns, and continue the great work that Peter Taylor and our LibDem group of councillors are doing. With Mayor Peter Taylor we have achieved much over the last 4 years – eg. 17 Green Flag parks and open spaces, including Cassiobury Park, the Beryl bike-share scheme, increased recycling to over 50%, kept council tax increases to a minimum (1.5% increase in 2022). There is much more to do in Park and across Watford in furthering our green agenda and striking the right balance between this and Watford being a successful and thriving town.
What do you enjoy about living in Watford/your ward/division?
I enjoy living next door to Cassiobury Park and everything it has to offer. Watford town centre is a great place to visit and spend an evening out, which I also do quite regularly.
What do you like to do in your spare time (for a bit of fun)?
I enjoy playing and watching cricket, international travel, some gardening, and skiing (when I can).
