Support Watford Police Station Petition

Watford Liberal Democrats are calling on the Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner to pledge his support for Watford Police Station.

Dorothy Thornhill, the Elected Mayor of Watford, said: “We all know that police budgets are very tight and savings have to be made. Losing the custody suite at Watford Police Station and the proposed closure of Watford Magistrates’ Court could be the thin end of the wedge.

“We’re calling on the Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner to commit to keeping a Police Station in Watford town centre. We also want the Commissioner to promise to reopen the custody suite if too much officers’ time is being spent commuting. If you share my concerns, please sign the petition below.

“I am in regular contact with David Lloyd, the Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner. I’m grateful that he has promised me that the new custody arrangements will be monitored to make sure that officers aren’t taken away from frontline policing. There will be reviews in February and May. I hope that the new system works, but if it doesn’t I will do everything I can to make sure Watford custody suite opens again.

“Crime has gone down in recent years, but we shouldn’t get complacent. Watford is the largest town in the county, and so near to London. There will always be some crime, and we will always need Police Officers in our town centre and in our community.”
