Ann worked from 2005-09 as Community Services Manager for Age Concern Hertfordshire, giving her a clear insight into the needs of older people in the town and across the county.
From June 2010 to September 2011 she worked as Extended Schools Co-ordinator for the South Oxhey consortium of Primary Schools, providing services for families such as breakfast and homework clubs and holiday activities, as well as parenting courses, in partnership with the Children’s Centres, libraries, leisure centres and other local and statutory organisations.
She was a Community Governor at Woodhall School, South Oxhey, from 2011 to 2019 and has also volunteered, in a fundraising role for Peace Hospice Care.
As an active member of Nordic Walking Watford and qualified Walk Leader, she can often be seen pounding the streets and open spaces around Watford and Three Rivers, which is a great way of keeping fit as well as getting to know local people and the area that she lives in. Having lived initially in Lych Gate, in Woodside Ward and since 1986 in Ellwood Gardens, Stanborough, she knows North Watford and Garston particularly well.
The Lib Dem values that mean the most to Ann are...
She has always been interested in politics, and was drawn to the Liberal Democrats because they fight for a fair and free society for all.
Her most important priority has always been to ensure that people have what they need to live as comfortably and safely as possible, with opportunities for good education and health services for all. This means having enough money, food and shelter to thrive and a voice to call for help if needed and to protect yourself and your environment. For people that don’t have theses basic things she is keen to ensure that there are others available to help them.
Ann enjoys living in Watford because...
Watford has been Ann's home town for nearly forty years. When she first moved to the area she was attracted by the easy access to London and the convenient road and rail links for business travel. Since having children, the excellent local schools and employment opportunities have taken on greater importance and the fantastic leisure facilities, parks and open spaces are the icing on the cake.
Woodside and Stanborough are safe, friendly, thriving communities with lots of amenities close at hand – what’s not to like?
For a bit of fun, when asked about her favourite food Ann said...
My favourite food is a summer barbecue with family and friends, a drop of sparkling wine and lots of laughter.
