Lib Dems secure extra parking patrols at ‘unsafe’ local junction

Liberal Democrat Councillors for Meriden have secured extra parking attendant patrols to help tackle the traffic problems on York Way, Meriden Way and The Gossamers, outside Meriden shops.

After pressure from local Councillors Jenny Pattinson, Amanda Grimston, Pete Hannon and Steve Cavinder, Watford Borough Council have agreed that York Way will be patrolled at least once a day, every day, for the next four months.

Dramatic fall in number of Special Constables in Watford

Following a freedom of information request submitted to Hertfordshire Constabulary, it has come to light that the number of special constables has fallen from 40 in March 2019 to just 26 in March 2021.

The number of special constables in Hertfordshire is the lowest it has been for over 5 years with only 166 special constables in the whole of the county in March 2021, compared to 224 special constables in March 2019.

Watford backs policy to encourage more diverse councillors

Liberal Democrat-run Watford Council have agreed a ground-breaking policy granting councillors maternity, paternity, shared parental, adoption, bereavement, compassionate and long-term sick leave.

Under current UK legislation, there is no legal basis on which elected officials are permitted to take a leave of absence from conducting their duties. This is applicable to councillors and MPs alike, with the exception of members of the national government’s Cabinet.

Liberal Democrat councillors support step-free access at Watford Met

Transport for London (TfL) are currently consulting on which stations should be given step-free access to support accessibility to transport services.

Park ward Councillors Jess Stiff and Peter Kloss believe Watford Metropolitan Line station should have step-free access. Councillors walk to all 17 of Watford’s Green Flag Parks for local charity

Watford’s Mayor and Deputy Mayor took to the streets over the weekend to walk around all 17 of Watford’s Green Flag Parks to fundraise for local charity Home Start Watford and Three Rivers.

Mayor Peter Taylor and Deputy Mayor, Aga Dychton, were joined along the 21.2km walk by various councillors all in support of the fantastic work that Home Start do to support vulnerable local families.
