Watford Lib Dems Call Out 10% Mileage Cut to 322 Bus Service

The Watford Liberal Democrats have uncovered that since January 2025, the 322 bus service has lost over 7,000 miles — equivalent to a 10% cut in the distance it should be covering. This significant reduction has been caused by repeated cancellations and incomplete journeys, leaving residents without reliable transport to get on with their daily activities.
The 322 service connects Hemel Hempstead, Maple Cross, Rickmansworth, and Watford. This route serves as a key transportation link for local residents traveling to work, medical appointments, and schools.
Peter Taylor, candidate for Central Watford and Oxhey, emphasised how frustrating this is for local residents. He said: “People living along this route rely on this bus to get to work, to get to hospital appointments, to go to college or to see friends and family. Hertfordshire County Council can no longer ignore the state of bus services in Watford.
“For decades, the Conservative-led County Council has overseen a dramatic decline in public transport. The County Council is failing to provide essential services. As a result, local residents are paying the price for years of neglect.”
Cllr Aga Dychton, Candidate for West Watford, said: “The 322 bus service is a lifeline for many in Watford, including West Watford and Holywell. These ongoing disruptions cause serious impediments to residents who rely on it every day.
“The current bus provisions in Hertfordshire are not supporting residents. The number of different operators in charge of the bus services have led to unreliable, expensive, and shrinking bus routes. The County Council’s approach to transport is failing our community, and this is simply unacceptable.”
The Watford Liberal Democrats are urging Arriva to restore full service to the 322 bus route and prevent further disruptions to local residents.
