Rezone Watford Stations

The Watford Liberal Democrats petition calling TfL to rezone all of Watford’s stations to zone 6 has reached 2,000 signatures in a couple of days.

Data reveals commuters from Watford Junction and other Watford stations are forced to pay significantly more than people travelling similar distances elsewhere on the network.

A peak-time single journey from Watford Junction costs £11.10 and a peak return costing a whopping £22.20. By comparison, a peak single from Bushey in Zone 8 costs £7.80, with a return of £15.60. From Watford Metropolitan Line station in Zone 7, a peak single costs £6.70 and a return £13.40. Meanwhile, in neighbouring Zone 6 – such as from Epping station – a peak single fare is £5.80 and a return is £11.60.

The large uptake in the petition shows how important this issue is for local residents as they are forced to pay nearly double the amount other commuters travelling similar distances have to face.

With a 5.8% TfL fare rise coming in March 2026, working people, families and young residents across our community will be hit hardest during this cost-of-living crisis.

Lib Dem Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “The fact that over 2,000 people have signed this petition in a couple of days shows how strongly people feel about this.  It is simply unfair that we are forced to pay so much more than people travelling similar distances elsewhere on the train network.”
