Tudor By-Election: Lib Dems Triumph and Send a Message to Labour
Watford Liberal Democrats are celebrating a fantastic victory after winning the Tudor ward by-election on 4 December, electing passionate local teacher Callum Robertson as the area’s newest councillor.
We are absolutely delighted with this result. Tudor has recently been a close contest between us and Reform UK in County Council elections, and once again, we have achieved a clear victory. Labour fell from second to fourth place, with their vote share collapsing to just 7%. On the other hand, we have increased our voter share to over 50%, showing just how far support for Labour has fallen both locally and nationally.
Results:
• Liberal Democrats (Callum Robertson): 821
• Reform UK: 433
• Conservative: 148
• Labour: 111
• Green: 77
Throughout the campaign, Callum and our team called on the Labour Government to commit to fast-tracking the rebuilding of Watford General Hospital. Residents told us repeatedly that they wanted a strong, hardworking local voice who would stand up to the Government and get things done.
Lib Dem Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said:
“This result shows the confidence people have in the Lib Dem team to fight for them and that the best way to send Labour a message is to vote Lib Dem.
Callum will hit the ground running and use his energy and enthusiasm to get local people the fair deal they deserve. This result showed just how unpopular Labour are across Watford, and it also shows that people do not trust Reform UK to do a good job locally. All across Watford, only the Liberal Democrats are listening to residents and fighting for real, positive change.
At next May’s local election, if you want to send Labour a message and stop Reform UK, you can do both by voting Lib Dem.”
Tudor Councillor Callum Robertson said:
“I’m humbled by the result. Thank you to every resident who put their trust in me and the Liberal Democrat team.
“From leading the charge to rebuild our new hospital, taking our crumbling roads and pavements seriously, and tackling crime, people are backing the Lib Dems to take action on the issues they care about. I’m proud to join a team that works hard all year round and gets real results.
“I’m proud to represent this area as your new councillor. I will work my hardest to hold this Labour government to account, and work with Peter Taylor to deliver on your priorities.
“This result shows that if residents want to send a message to this Labour government, and beat Reform UK, they should back the Lib Dems in Watford.”
This fantastic result strengthens our momentum as we head towards next year’s Mayoral elections. Thank you to every resident who supported us and helped make this victory possible. If you want to get involved and help us win the Mayoral 2026 elections, we would love to hear from you.
