Watford Lib Dems Fight Back Against Surprise Bridgewater Surgery Parking Charges

Your Watford Lib Dem councillors have launched a petition urging an estate management company to remove parking charges at Bridgewater Surgeries after parking charges were suddenly introduced. 

The sudden introduction of parking fees on 8 August affects many patients who rely on Bridgewater GP Surgeries on Printers Avenue. The change has been implemented with no notice or consultation by the estate management company for the private development containing Bridgewater Surgeries.

The GP surgery serves as a vital healthcare centre in the area, providing essential medical services to patients. Many rely on this facility not only for critical health services but also as a welcoming place where they feel understood and supported.

The imposition of parking fees disproportionately affects those who need care most. Elderly patients may choose to delay vital appointments due to financial concerns, posing significant health risks. Disabled individuals who require special transportation could face logistical and financial barriers, leading to fewer visits. Caregivers who accompany vulnerable patients may find frequent visits financially untenable.

Lib Dem Mayor Peter Taylor said: “Patients shouldn’t have to pay to access their GP. Residents have contacted me about this sudden change in parking policy and the impact it will have. This will make it harder and financially challenging for patients to get the care they need, especially the elderly, disabled, and young families. We have launched this petition calling on the estate management company to remove these parking charges. Please support our campaign by signing so no one is prevented from getting the care they need.” 

Local resident and surgery patient, Emil Rowe, said: “It is dreadful that there has been no consultation with residents or patients about this change. It is unfair and makes visiting the GP much more difficult, especially for those without other ways to travel. I am signing this petition to make sure the estate management company hears our concerns and drops these parking fees.”
