Watford Lib Dems Win Prestigious National Diversity Award

9 Dec 2025

The Watford Lib Dems are once again celebrating after winning a prestigious national award recognising the party’s exceptional commitment to diversity and representation. The award was presented during the Liberal Democrat Conference in September 2025 and highlighted the local party’s success in building one of the most inclusive groups of councillors in the country, reflecting the vibrant mix of backgrounds, cultures and communities that make Watford unique.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, welcomed the announcement, saying:
“This recognition celebrates the diversity and strength of our town. We believe our town thrives when everyone has a voice and we work hard to make sure our councillors truly represent the communities they serve. I am delighted that this commitment has been recognised nationally.”

Chairman of the Watford Liberal Democrats, Tom Osborn, added:
“I am incredibly proud to chair an LP that boasts such a diverse group of councillors. In large part, it is the fruit of longstanding mentoring and encouragement of community champions, by Peter Taylor in particular, to stand up and represent our residents.
We are into our third unbroken decade of Lib Dem control of Watford BC and that would simply not be the case if we did not wholly represent the nationally celebrated rainbow town and great place to live that is Watford.”

The Watford Lib Dems say the award further strengthens their determination to continue championing inclusion, empowering underrepresented voices and ensuring that the council truly reflects the town it serves.
